- Zebulun: The Superman of the Shevatim
- Zebulun was the sixth son of Jacob and Leah. Because Leah was blessed with a sixth son, she named him after the Hebrew word for "present" and declared him a "gift" from God (3). His brothers: Reuben, Shimon, Levi, Judah and Issachar, were all jealous of his adroit hunting skills that made Esav feel like a 12 year old girl(2). He also had a sister, Dinah, and would sometimes braid her hair if she baked him brownies. Zebulun was the fighter, and would later be the "partner" to Binyamin(6). While Binyamin would learn, Zebulun would fight and earn a living. They made a great team and an essential one for Judaism because they demonstrate the ideal Jewish individual (6). No one Jew should be on either extreme, whether learning all day, or only fighting. Only by joining those two qualities together do we exemplify what Hashem expects of us as His people. (6,7). There are a few stories of Zebulun and his tribe, but in each one shevet Zebulun is proclaimed a hero and a fighter. For instance, Devorah sang a song and in it, Zebulun's tribe is mentioned. It states that " The people of Zebulun risked their very lives so did Naphtali on the terraced fields., (Judges 5:18). This story shows that they are a willful people devoted to God, and who can obviously wield a sword.
| This picture represents the tribe of Zebulun because they were the strong willed, loyal, and devoted for good (Hashem). Similar to Superman, Zebulun had an alter ego, Binyamin. While Binyamin is the average worker/ Torah learner, Clark Kent, Zebulun is Superman, faster than a speeding horse, more powerful than Bilham's donkey's leg, and able to leap tall buildings (if given an adequately constructed bridge adjoining the said two structures). |
- As you can see by the fact that I finished this on Notability, I was having trouble with the Wiki because uploading a picture and creating a new wiki was getting difficult and time consuming. I like the idea of the editable worksheets on pages as they are easily kept tracked of. However, the idea for the wiki was really cool because then the entire public would be able to see our works (sorry it did not really work out). If we had a class just to perfect about how to work the wiki, I am sure we could make a wiki for a different project.
- Also, on a scale from 1-5, I would have to say a 2, because the first day I was not there, and the second day was I was just researching my topic and gathering sources.
